Abstract

This research explores the challenges in preserving Malay culture in Batam amidst the ongoing wave of modernization. By employing a systematic literature review method, the study evaluates 16 relevant articles from Google Scholar, spanning 2015 to 2025. The analysis underscores the necessity for comprehensive multicultural education and supportive policies to enhance cultural awareness and mitigate potential societal conflicts. The development of tourism, aligned with cultural preservation efforts, is identified as a viable approach to increase economic value, ensuring that cultural integrity remains intact. The study emphasizes the crucial role of youth and local community involvement in sustaining cultural continuity. Results indicate that a collaborative approach involving all stakeholders is essential to maintain the relevance of Malay culture in today's modern context. The study provides strategic recommendations for policy development and fostering cross-sector collaboration, aiming to balance modern growth with cultural needs successfully. These findings highlight the importance of integrating cultural heritage within developmental strategies to preserve the distinctive identity of Malay culture in Batam.
