Abstract

The availability of SMK/MAK textbooks based on the Merdeka curriculum based on deep learning is still limited. Publishers need to play a role in supporting the availability of textbooks by improving the competencies of the writing and editing teams. The purpose of the community service activity is to strengthen the strategy for writing textbooks based on the deep learning-based curriculum. The community service activity was carried out over two days using the Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) method which was carried out in several activities: (1) planning stage; (2) process stage; and (3) evaluation stage. The results of the community service activity showed that there was collaboration between the publisher and the university in improving the writing and editing team's book-writing skills. Other results show that there has been an increase in participants' understanding regarding curriculum concept material, in-depth learning concepts, main strategies, and technical stages in compiling SMK/MAK textbooks through a series of pre-tests, mentoring and post-tests. Based on 10 pre-test items, the majority of participants could not answer/were wrong on questions 40% (question 1), 46.67% ( 2) 26.67% (questions 4-5), 20%, (question 6), 33.33% (question 7), 13.33% (9-10). Participants' understanding after receiving mentoring can be measured through a post-test with the correct answer category/can answer on the post-test, namely an increase of 93.33% (1, 6, 7, 9, 10); 86.67% (2 and 4); 100% (5). The average pre-test score was 37.33%, while the average post-test score was 92.67%, an increase of 55.34%. Each participant understood the five main strategies, each broken down into three research and reference review techniques, four pre-writing techniques, three writing techniques, four review techniques, and three finishing techniques. Strengthening the writing strategies for SMK/MAK textbooks through mentoring is expected to increase the productivity of the writing and editing teams in producing SMK/MAK textbooks that align with the independent curriculum based on deep learning.
