ABSTRACT
Background: Untreated caries in primary teeth may progress to pulpal inflammation. Pulpotomy aims to preserve the vitality of the radicular pulp by removing the infected coronal pulp tissue. Purpose: To report the success of formocresol pulpotomy in primary molars diagnosed with reversible pulpitis. Case: An 8-year-old female presented with extensive caries in teeth 75 and 85, accompanied by pain during mastication that subsided upon removal of the stimulus. Radiographic examination revealed deep caries approximating the pulp chamber without furcation radiolucency or pathologic root resorption. The diagnosis of reversible pulpitis was established for teeth 75 and 85. Management: A pulpotomy procedure was performed using formocresol as a fixation agent. Zinc Oxide Eugenol (ZOE) was placed as the medicament material, and final restoration was completed with Stainless Steel Crowns (SSCs) to ensure a hermetic coronal seal. Conclusion: A three-month follow-up demonstrated that the patient was asymptomatic, with normal masticatory function, healthy gingival tissues, and radiographic findings showing no radiolucency and an intact lamina dura. Formocresol treatment with pulpotomy and SSC restoration is effective and cost-efficient in maintaining primary teeth with a favorable prognosis.
