Abstract

Background: The need for orthodontic treatment is increasing along with the increasing need and public awareness of the importance of dental and oral health. Fixed orthodontic treatment can cause problems with periodontal tissue. Excessive pressure and traction from fixed orthodontic appliances are factors that can cause gingival enlargement. Orthodontic appliances attached to the tooth surface can make it difficult to maintain oral hygiene, triggering inflammation and gingival enlargement. Treatment for gingival enlargement cases is gingivectomy, which aims to eliminate pockets and gingival inflammation, to obtain physiological, functional and aesthetic gingiva.  Objective: To see the success of gingivectomy treatment in cases of gingival enlargement caused using fixed orthodontics. Case Report: A 25-year-old woman came to Soelastri Dental and Oral Hospital complaining that her gums looked enlarged, asymmetrical in all regions of her lower front teeth, and there were pockets of depth 5 mm on teeth 33, 32, 31, 41, 42, 43. Treatment was performed gingivectomy using conventional methods. Case Management: Treatment uses gingivectomy, the gingiva appears healthier with a physiological and proportional contour and improves the aesthetic appearance of the lower anterior teeth. Conclusion: Gingivectomy treatment was declared successful because the patient no longer complained of enlarged gingiva with normal gingival pocket depth.
