Abstract

Background: Periodontal disease may begin during adolescence and gradually progress throughout life, showing a significant prevalence in this age group. Clinical signs such as gingival bleeding, supragingival calculus, probing depth, and loss of attachment are indicators of periodontitis. Objective: To present a case of curettage treatment in an adolescent patient diagnosed with localized stage I grade A chronic periodontitis. Case Report: A 19‑year‑old male attended to RSGM Soelastri with complaints of frequent bleeding in the lower anterior gingiva during toothbrushing. The patient reported The patient reported symptoms persisting for six months without pain. He had no systemic disease history and no allergies to food, weather, or medications. Case Management: Initial examination revealed bleeding on probing (BOP) positive, an oral hygiene index score of 4.3 (moderate), plaque control record of 51%, and gingival index of 1.1 (moderate). Initial therapy was performed. On reevaluation seven days later, gingival erythema and slight enlargement persisted, with BOP still positive. However, oral hygiene index improved to 1.33 (good), plaque control record decreased to 22%, and gingival index improved to 0.6 (good). Periodontal pocket depths of tooth 43 measured 4 mm mesiolabial, 2 mm midfacial, and 3 mm distolabial. Based on clinical findings, surgical phase therapy with gingival curettage was indicated and performed. Conclusion: Hormonal variation was considered a systemic factor influencing periodontal condition. Localized stage I grade A chronic periodontitis was successfully managed with gingival curettage, demonstrating clinical improvement within two weeks post‑treatment.
