Journal's AI Policy: Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies
Abdi Geomedisains is committed to upholding the principles of transparency, ethical authorship, and academic rigor in scholarly publication. This policy provides guidance for authors, reviewers, and editors regarding the ethical use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted tools in the manuscript preparation process. This policy will be reviewed periodically to align with technological advancements and evolving scholarly standards.
Scope of Policy
This document specifically governs the application of AI in the manuscript writing process. However, this policy does not cover AI-based methodologies employed for data analysis or interpretation within research frameworks, provided that their use is transparently described in the methodology section.
Authors may employ generative AI and AI-assisted technologies solely to improve linguistic clarity, grammatical accuracy, and readability. However, such tools must not supplant the author's core academic responsibilities, including formulating research questions, developing theoretical or pedagogical arguments, analyzing findings, or drawing scholarly conclusions. All use of AI must be conducted with full human oversight, and authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their manuscripts.
Permissible Applications
The use of generative AI and AI-assisted tools is permitted for the following purposes, with clear disclosure within the manuscript:
- Language Enhancement: Identifying and correcting grammatical, syntactical, and spelling errors; improving textual fluency; and refining overall writing coherence and style.
- Citation Management: Assisting in formatting references according to specified citation styles (e.g., APA, MLA), and generating accurate and complete bibliographic entries.
- Originality Verification and Plagiarism Detection: Utilizing AI-powered software to screen manuscripts for unintentional duplication and ensure adherence to academic originality standards.
- Data Presentation and Visualization: Supporting the clear, accurate, and concise presentation of research findings; and assisting in processing complex datasets and generating visual representations (e.g., charts, graphs, tables) to enhance the clarity and interpretability of findings.
Strictly Prohibited Uses
The use of generative AI and AI-assisted tools is categorically prohibited for the following purposes:
- Primary Content Generation: AI tools must not be used to draft primary sections of the manuscript, including (but not limited to) the Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion, or Conclusion, which must reflect the authors' original intellectual contributions and scholarly analysis.
- Data Manipulation or Falsification: Fabricating, altering, or falsifying data or research results; or creating, altering, or manipulating visual elements, images, diagrams, or tables submitted.
- Authorship Attribution: Generative AI tools may not be listed as authors, co-authors, or contributors in the manuscript. Authorship implies responsibility for the content, approval of the final version, and accountability for any issues that may arise.
- Deception or Misrepresentation: Obscuring AI-generated text as human-authored, or engaging in any other deceptive practices that may mislead readers regarding originality or authorship.
Disclosure Obligation
Authors are required to clearly and explicitly disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the “Author statements”, "Acknowledgements" or "Methodology" section (if relevant to data analysis) of their manuscript. This disclosure must include:
- The name of the used AI tool(s).
- The specific sections of the manuscript where AI was employed.
- The specific purpose(s) for which AI was used.
Example Disclosure:
"The authors used [Name of AI Tool, e.g., Grammarly, ChatGPT-4] for [specific purpose, e.g., enhancing language clarity and grammar checking]. Following the use of this tool, the authors have reviewed and edited the content and take full responsibility for the entire publication."
Ethical Obligations
Authors are solely responsible for ensuring that all AI-assisted contributions comply with applicable copyright laws, avoid plagiarism, and refrain from misrepresenting intellectual ownership. Violations of this policy will be considered a breach of academic integrity and may result in manuscript rejection or further action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policy.
