Abstract

The millennial group comes with unique and different characteristics than the previous generation. The demographic bonus has made it a strategic group in waqf management because it will play a role as a waqif or nazir. The low competence of nazir, the low APBN budget for waqf certification, and the low understanding of waqif cause the collection of waqf assets to be far from their potential. Reading the future of waqf in Indonesia, it is necessary to use the millennial lens as the largest group in the population. This paper aims to see how Muslim millennials understand and express the waqf movement in a case study of the Bogor Waqf Forest. The development of the Bogor Waqf Forest, which was established by millennials, is a unique and phenomenal waqf management. They have not only succeeded in reducing the level of environmental damage but have also succeeded in improving the community's welfare. The results of this study indicate that Muslim millennials' involvement in managing the Bogor Waqf Forest is driven by motivation for their articulation of waqf. They articulate waqf, integrally and completely, that waqf carries a divine mission as well as a humanitarian mission. Theological and humanitarian encouragement are the primary motivations for millennials to develop the Bogor Waqf Forest. The existence of millennials in managing the Bogor Waqf Forest is expressed openly in the form of innovative, participatory, and sustainable waqf.
